Dusty May’s first commitment at Michigan has a notable family name.
Justin Pippen, the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, committed to the Wolverines on Friday. Pippen, a 6-foot-3 combo guard in the Class of 2024, is a four-star prospect ranked No. 101 in the 247Sports Composite. He picked Michigan over Cal, Stanford, Florida and Texas A&M.
Pippen visited Michigan last weekend and announced his commitment via a 247 livestream while sitting next to his father. He’s the first player to commit to Michigan since May was hired last month from Florida Atlantic.
“The coaches were great to me,” Pippen said. “They showed me a lot of hospitality. They gave me really good pitches. They see me coming in as a player who can impact the floor right away.”
Pippen played at Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, Calif., where he was a teammate of Bryce and Bronny James, sons of LeBron James. Pippen averaged 16.5 points and 4.9 assists as a senior there, catching the attention of high-major programs around the country. He made a big jump in the recruiting rankings during that time and emerged as one of the top uncommitted players in the Class of 2024.
Justin’s older brother, Scotty Pippen Jr., played at Vanderbilt and averaged 20 points per game as a sophomore and a junior.
At Michigan, May is in the process of rebuilding the roster after the firing of Juwan Howard and an exodus of players to the transfer portal. The Wolverines signed point guard Durral Brooks in November and retained guard George Washington III and forward Will Tschetter from last year’s team.
