Marc Andreessen lists Silicon Valley mansion

Marc Andreessen, the billionaire behind Netscape and venture-capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, has put his Northern California home up for sale, with a price tag of more than US$33 million.

This marks a significant move for Andreessen, who, alongside his wife Laura Arillaga, daughter of the late Silicon Valley tycoon John Arrillaga, has invested heavily in the property, doubling its value since their purchase in early 2007, according to the Robb Report.

Situated in Atherton, a plush Silicon Valley neighbourhood, the property spans 1.5 acres and boasts a Tuscan-style mansion, a guesthouse, and a separate office/studio, combining for a total of five bedrooms and seven bathrooms across more than 1152 sq m.

The estate, originally built in the mid-1990s and extensively renovated over four years, features a circular driveway, expansive terraces, balconies, and a wealth of high-end amenities.

Inside, the residence showcases herringbone-style cherry floors, a grand staircase, an elevator serving all floors, seven fireplaces, and sophisticated home-automation, security, and surveillance systems.

The living spaces are equally impressive, with soundproof walls, automated window shades, a concealed projector, retractable cinema screen, and dual kitchens equipped with premium appliances.

Additional luxuries include a formal dining room, a family room that opens to a terrace with a built-in barbecue, a den with an office, a media room, mirrored gym, and an upstairs lounge leading to a master bedroom with lavish appointments.

The grounds are meticulously landscaped, featuring a blend of natural and synthetic grass, specimen trees, gardens, fountains, and an arbor-covered media lounge.

There’s also a guesthouse and an office/studio, each with kitchen facilities, and a three-car garage with additional space converted for office and catering use.

Andreessen’s decision to sell comes as he increasingly invests in Malibu, where he owns properties valued at more than US$255 million.

This sale adds to his impressive portfolio, which includes a US$36 million vacant lot near Las Vegas, underscoring his significant impact on the luxury real estate market.
