The Ohio State Buckeyes received a commitment Sunday from four-star receiver Jeremiah McClellan. Here’s what you need to know:
- McClellan is Ohio State’s third receiver commitment in its 2024 class, joining five-stars Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham, and the 20th commitment overall.
- The 6-foot, 190-pound McClellan is the No. 108 player in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 18 receiver in the class. His commitment gives Ohio State three top-20 receivers, the only program in the country to do that.
- The St. Louis native chose Ohio State over in-state school Missouri and Oregon.
What does this mean for Ohio State?
Brian Hartline has secured a wealth of talent at receiver again. The Buckeyes were always going to sign three receivers in this class, and McClellan is a good way to cap the haul.
Although he might not be a five-star prospect like Smith and Graham, he’s still a talented prospect who can grow under Hartline’s expertise. One look at his film, from his junior season, shows explosive ability. He has good speed and is a threat in the return game, too.
Ohio State already has one of the best receiving corps in the country, but adding three this class was important to continue the group’s success and depth. There’s a chance that the Buckeyes lose Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, Julian Fleming and Xavier Johnson next year to graduation and the NFL. His commitment will keep Ohio State with at least 10 scholarship receivers on the roster, barring any transfer portal movement.
What’s next for the Buckeyes?
After some recent misses for Ohio State, McClellan’s commitment is a welcome sight and nearly puts an end to what Ohio State wants on offense in the 2024 class.
The Buckeyes are still awaiting a few decisions on the offensive line. They are among the finalists for the top tackle in the country, Brandon Baker. Ohio State is also actively recruiting the top interior lineman, Jordan Seaton, who has an official visit scheduled for Oct. 6.
As for the next commitment to watch, five-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston is expected to announce on Aug. 22, his 18th birthday, with the Buckeyes battling Georgia, Alabama, Clemson and USC.
