Dolphins expected to hire Ravens assistant coach Anthony Weaver as DC: Sources

The Miami Dolphins are expected to hire Ravens assistant coach Anthony Weaver as their next defensive coordinator, league sources confirmed, and he is expected to sign a contract Saturday afternoon. Weaver will replace Vic Fangio, who mutually agreed to part ways with the Dolphins after spending one season as Miami’s defensive coordinator.

Weaver, 43, joined the Ravens in January 2021 as their defensive line coach and run game coordinator. In 2022, Weaver became the Ravens’ assistant coach and defensive line coach.

Before the Ravens, Weaver was the Houston Texans’ defensive coordinator in 2020 along with their defensive line coach from 2016 to 2019. He was also the defensive line coach with the Buffalo Bills (2013) and Cleveland Browns (2014 to 2015).

Weaver played seven seasons in the NFL as a defensive end with the Ravens (2002 to 2005) and Texans (2006 to 2008).

The Dolphins finished 11-6 in 2023 before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC wild-card game. Miami had several key losses on defense due to injury, including linebacker Bradley Chubb (torn ACL) and cornerback Xavien Howard (left foot injury).

The Ravens were the top team in the AFC with a 13-4 record. Their defense ranked first in points per game (16.5) and sixth in yards per game (301.4). Baltimore lost to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
